Working in our community here in Erie PA is something we enjoy doing the most. It’s fulfilling to be able to see the impact we make locally for all different types of companies. Recently though, we provided something with a little bit of history behind it. Paragon Media One combined efforts with the District Attorney’s office to create a virtual historical museum honoring past and present law enforcement. This unique design allows the viewing of different photos and videos in a twisting and turning carousel, depicting men and women who have dedicated their lives to the protection of Erie County. Paragon Media One was honored to have the opportunity to work on this project. Anyone in Erie is welcome to honor their ancestors who were involved in law enforcement. This can be done simply by e-mailing the photo with a description and date, if possible, to Chief County Detective Larry Dombrowski at ldombrowski@eriecountygov.org. As always, Paragon Media One can provide your company with any solutions you need for your website. Check out our solutions page.

Check it out now! - Erie County virtual historical police museum.

A writer’s biggest fear is that no one reads what he or she is writing. It’s ok if people are reading, and may not particularly like what they read, but if no one is reading at all, we feel insecure as if a child who’s pacifier or teddy bear has been taken away right before bed time. Of course, all of your comments are helping me to know that I do have readers, and for that I thank you. However, one of the bigger issues is the fact that I have always wondered if my colleagues actually read what I have to say, or if they just create a new design every now and then, and just think I’m the crazy writer typing along like my life depends on the speed of my fingers to the keyboard. So, with that, I sent out an e-mail to my co-workers here at Paragon Media One. I asked them to let me know which their ten favorite blogs were that I’d written in the past. So, at least I know they’ve read ten of them I was actually pleased to find that they do read them; because they all picked ones that I myself would too. Now without further commendation, I’ve compiled the ten most given responses from my co-workers, to bring you the Office Choice blogs. These might be ones you’d like to take a look at too, if you’re new to the blog.

I might also like to add a quick thank you to my co-workers for not only reading, but taking the time out of your day to let me know which were your favorite! And bloggers, these might be the first ones you’d want to check out to get a feel for what I write about if you’re new to the site! Have a great day everyone!

Here’s me being a complete techno-geek at her finest. Have you USED the new Adobe Photoshop CS5? Amazing, to say the least. It’s got everything that you’ve wished they’d come out with while working in the application, and more. The coolest thing I found is the content-aware fill. It allows you to completely delete a subject, and it will fill in the background around it using a technology that matches lighting, tone and noise, and ultimately makes the image look like the deleted subject never even existed. If you were sick of using drop shadows and fussing around to make things look 3-D, your techno-prayers have been answered with the Enhanced 3-D realism and reach materials feature. This feature enables you to make a subject three dimensional, and make materials look like glass and chrome. Sweet. Puppet warp. What is that you may ask? The example used on the Adobe website is an elephant’s trunk. It’s hanging straight down. With the puppet warp feature you can warp or stretch graphics, text, or image elements. So, you can curve that elephant’s trunk however the heck you want it to go, and it uses the content-aware fill to fill in the blank spot after the subject has been changed. HDR Imaging? Yep, they’ve included Superior HDR Imaging, which literally creates surreal HDR images with a precise accuracy. Ever gotten tired of keying out the green for green screen images? Especially if you’re using a girl as a subject with tiny strands of hair that takes a ridiculous amount of time to key out (can you tell I’m speaking from experience)? Don’t worry anymore, because now complex selections are made easy. I could literally go on forever, describing how amazing this new Photoshop will be. But, I suppose that’s what their website is for, and I won’t take all their glory. It is, in fact glorious, I might add J So, try it out. It’s amazing, and they’ve even got free shipping until May 31st. Well, that’s it for my geek rave! Talk to you soon!

Thinking about getting the new iPad? Whether it be for business or pleasure, we think the iPad is a great buy. With the ability to get online, email, store photos, view videos, listen to music and more, it’s got many of the capabilities of a laptop, without the bulk. They’ve got apps created specifically for the iPad, a place to manage your contacts, and with the sleek design and easy-to-use format, it’s simple yet revolutionary. It has been referred to as a coffee table tablet, something that can be used quickly and on the go. According to CNET, the reasons for the purchase have varied as well. While some are purchasing the iPad strictly for business, others are buying it as a novelty, an impulse buy, for those who had no laptop, and keeping the ease of use in mind, for the computer adverse. Just a reminder though, the iPad won’t play flash, so for right now at least, if you’re looking for a flash friendly device, the iPad might not be for you. My recommendation: it seems there isn’t a reason not to purchase this new piece of equipment! As a writer, I’m still fond of my keyboard, but it seems to me everyone’s going crazy for the iPad. Another good invention from Apple. Keep up the good work. If anyone’s purchased the iPad, let us know what you think, leave a review!

Well, it’s that time of year again. Candy canes, snowflakes, gingerbread cookies, and hot cocoa. As adults, we tend to forget the feeling of Christmas as we are wrapped up in the stress of shopping for friends and family, trying to get things done at work before we begin our long weekend. Women, we’re worried about the cooking and the cleaning, finding Christmas outfits for our children. Officially, adults have taken the fun out of Christmas! Think back to when you were a kid, patiently awaiting the school bell to ring to start your Christmas break. Searching throughout your house to find the gifts your parents had wrapped up and hidden, in hopes to shake the boxes and guess the contents of the concealed treasure. Who can forget the endless Christmas specials…Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, The Land of the Misfit Toys, or Frosty the Snowman? If you were lucky enough to have the mother who was baking or cooking something to bring to your family get together, you might remember the smell filling your home, and begging to lick the spoon, and not even knowing what calories were yet. How excited were you on Christmas Eve, planting cookies and milk near the fireplace, and hoping that Santa liked chocolate chip. Oh, how can you forget that feeling of anticipation and restlessness, knowing that waking up meant finding out what Santa had left under the tree for you? Sure, we can’t turn back time and we certainly can’t start believing in a fictional character all over again, but we certainly can trade the stress in for some holiday spirit! Build a snowman, drive around town to look at the Christmas lights, pop in a Christmas movie and snuggle up with your loved ones, some eggnog, and some gingerbread cookies. However you do it, be safe, and have a happy holiday! Come Monday, everything will be back to normal, so enjoy it while you can. It only comes once a year! “Christmas is not a time nor a season, but a state of mind. To cherish peace and goodwill, to be plenteous in mercy, is to have the real spirit of Christmas.” ~Calvin Coolidge Are you in the right state of mind? Happy Holidays from the staff at Paragon Media One!
